Worden Pond In Rhode Island Is A Beautiful Piece Of Living History
Rhode Island may be known as the Ocean State, but we also have some pretty impressive bodies of fresh water, many of which are man-made lakes (the rest are natural lakes, rivers, and coastal lagoons). Rhode Island’s largest natural lake happens to be known as Worden Pond — and while the water itself is shallow, the lake is pretty massive.
Worden Pond is located in the southeast part of the state.
The pond’s shallow waters (the average depth is just four feet) promote heavy weed growth, which creates an ideal habitat for fish, especially bass. Worden Pond is also home to northern pike, bluegill, sunfish, and perch.
During the winter months, ice fishing is popular here, if it gets cold enough.
You’ll find photos with the sky and water aglow all over Rhode Islanders’ social media accounts.
We’re lucky to have access to so many ocean beaches in our beautiful state. That being said, sometimes it’s important to appreciate our freshwater spots, too. Worden Pond is definitely a piece of living history.
