At Only 2 Feet Deep, Trustom Pond Is One Of The Most Unique Bodies Of Water In Rhode Island
With a nickname like the Ocean State, it’s pretty clear that Rhode Island is home to some stunning ocean beaches. That being said, for such a small state, we also have a large number of lakes and ponds that make perfect day trip destinations. Trustom Pond is one of them… and while the pond itself is pretty shallow, the area is part of a peaceful wildlife refuge every nature lover will appreciate.
The pond is a closed lagoon, averaging between 1.5 – 2 feet deep.
It has a surface area of about 800 acres, so it’s a good-sized lagoon.
Needless to say, this is one popular bird-watching destination.
You’ll be able to look for them from the observation decks you’ll find throughout the refuge.
The turtles and frogs are extremely happy here, and we can’t say we blame them.
This is a perfect trail for beginning hikers and young families. In fact, this wildlife refuge is the perfect place to spend an afternoon together reconnecting with nature.
